"Nothing is more powerful than an idea."

"Nothing is more powerful than an idea" (Invisible Children, 2012).
This was the opening statement of the KONY 2012 video that depicted the state of security or more importantly of humanity in Uganada, and deductively, in our world.

True enough, here is a remarkable idea that proactively advocates change for the world - a world that is ruled by institutional systems and powers that 'determine' the course of human history.

A world that was actually.

The conventions of society today is one that is revolves around Facebook, youth empowerment, the internet, blogs and social media. The conventions of today is able to empower every individual the freedom to express anything, anytime and anywhere.

KONY 2012 is now sharing its hype on the social media sites, but lest everyone forget, beyond a short term goal of capturing Kony should be a long term vision. Joseph Kony is a mere sample and at a same time result of the bigger institutional changes that need attention as well.

Teju Cole, an online critic of the Atlantic mentions in his article that
"there is an internal ethical urge that demands that each of us serve justice as much as he or she can. But beyond the immediate attention that he rightly pays hungry mouths, child soldiers or raped civilians, there are more complex and more widespread problems. There are serious problems of governance, of infrastructure, of democracy, and of law and order. These problems are neither simple in themselves nor are they reducible to slogans. Such problems are both intricate and intensely local."
In fact, Cole presents a variety more of perspectives about Kony [read his article] and stresses his disagreement with some of the ideological implications of this project.

Personally, I believe that the more important concern is that there is progress towards genuine social change - making people care, aware and proactive about the way they respond to these issues.

How about you? Do you care about this issue or even bother to take a couple of minutes to read about this global initiative?

According to Invisible Children,
"Nothing is more powerful than an idea whose time is now."
Together with 7 billion others, you live within today's societal conventions and you are empowered to make your stand.
