Lifestyle Snapshots!

For a marketing class in Emerson College, we were asked to create a Lifestyle Snapshot of ourselves. This is actually the same class (Messages, Media and Channels) that I was talking about in my previous entry about working with the Ad Club at their EDGE Conference. This exercise was purposely given to us to sharpen our perception of determining and depicting a consumer's demographic and psychographic characteristics.

Just in case someone needs a refresher, demographics refer to the matter-of-fact details of a person (age, which can be indicated in a range sometimes; place of birth, place of residence, family background, salary and ethnicity, etc.). On the other hand, psychographics refer to a consumer's lifestyle. This refers to a person's interests, lifestyle, habits, day-to-day schedule and personal preferences.

What I really liked about the lifestyle snapshot is how it is able to combine both of these characteristics into a graphically and visually engaging piece of work. Furthermore, it's a healthy way of assessing who you are and where you stand in your life as of the moment. Personally, it is also a great way of looking back at the different activities you've been involved with (e.g. mine intertwined with my most recent Emerson College semester).
My Lifestyle Snapshot
Here is my personal shot in creating my lifestyle snapshot. It basically compiles both my demographic and psychographic characteristics. (e.g. demographic would mean that I'm asian, currently live in Boston, in my early 20s and attending Emerson College, while psychographic would pertain to my interest in social media, marketing, performance, traveling, and hanging out with friends).

I personally see this as a very interesting form of self-expression as well as a holistic way of viewing a person since it exceeds baseless book-cover judgments and understands someone based on a (for a lack of a better term) demographic and psychographic perspective.

How about you, what's your lifestyle snapshot?
