A. Musical Theatre Society
In case you don't know, Emerson College is renowned for its Musical Theatre program, and these people I've met are just hands-down amazing (and to think that most of them are still in their freshmen year). Their passion for their craft is very very admirable and I am confident that they will go far in their careers. You can catch their latest updates here. That's me on the left with my Kobolds ears.
To my Baker's Wife and Kobolds family, I meant it when I told you guys that you were like my first Emersonian family. Transferring into another university during Spring sem is tough, but you guys are just the quirkiest and friendliest people I've met. More musical theatre to come.
B. Emerson Channel's Good Morning Emerson
Emerson Channel is a student-run station in the college and Good Morning Emerson is their renowned morning show. What I am most thankful for is how this organization gave me the chance stay in touch with my broadcast media passion. Thank you to my colleagues - indeed a bevy a beauties (except for our shooter) - Brianna Baxter (Broadcast Journalism '14), soon to be America's Next Top Model and Paige Newman (Producing, '14), my segment producer and Jenna, our editor and Alex our shooter.
We had 5 location shoots for our music segments that featured many different artists from Boston - a truly talented city. It was truly an honor to meet aspiring songers, Micah and Capen Evans (check her out here.), bands such as Me vs Gravity (check out their Walls MTV) and Canary, and Ellen's signed artist, Charlie Puth (check out his cover of Adele here).
C. Iwasaki Library
And just a little more trivia about the Emerson library: many don't know that it houses the original set of NBC's Will and Grace. Sick isn't it?
D. Professors
One of my favorite quotes about teaching goes back to the days when I volunteered to teach public school students in the Philippines (Para Kay Kiko), and it goes something like this:
2 teach is
+ 2 touch lives
4 ever
Kinda cool huh? This is the exact way I felt with my professors. Randy Harrison (Intro to Marketing) of Marketing teaching us about the basic concepts of the course and at the same time emphasizing that Marketing should be used for the good just because we are dealing with PEOPLE, HUMAN BEINGS that are often dehumanized by the industry.
Professor Tracy McLaughlin-Volpe (Statistics) teaching the ever-dreaded Statistics (the only Math course in Emerson College fyi), emphasizing the importance of its logic more than the face-front formula and patiently pushing each student to be his best.
Professor Kim McLarin (Slavery and Freedom Literature), writer from the New York Times, whose teaching was not meant to merely 'fill our buckets, but light a fire". She taught us think critically (which reminded me a lot of some of my favorite professors back home - DTC and Sir Eulalio Guieb of the UP Broadcast Communication Department). Indeed, there are somethings that I will never see things the same way again.
Dr. Tamera Marko (Research Writing), a brilliant woman and an enthusiastic knowledge seeker. I just love how she stressed the importance writing about what you care about, and at the same time knowing why others should care about it as well. Everything was just so relevant, current and open-minded, shaping the way our class view of writing (the holistic process of it) and the way it has and will continue to shape our everyday lives.
Thank you so much for a fruitful first semester. Please do keep in touch.
E. WERS 88.9 FM
This is definitely the icing on my first Emerson College semester cake (that was kinda' stretchy). I recently got hired to work for this multi-awarded student-run station. This is definitely one of the things I am most proud of about our school. The station is fully functional, efficient and mission-driven, and I LIKE IT! It is non-commercial and is primarily geared towards honing the skills of the students within a professional setting. They really get down and dirty with underwriting, advertisements, featuring artists, etc. They even have a mobile app which makes the station even more accessible to everyone all over the world :)I just could not get over the fact that I will be working with highly professional and efficient group of people. Please please show your support by following us on twitter, liking our Facebook page and tuning in: Discover WERS 88.9 FM.

And thus, I look forward to an enjoyable rest of my stay here in Emerson. Summer semester is starting really soon. How about you? Have you had similar first semester experiences in your university?
I like (D). Please let me repost it. Thanks!
